NASA again proved itself by a record-breaking mission of sending its vehicle nearer to the sun than any space medium has ever reached before. NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has set a benchmark for all the future missions being prepared to explore the Sun.
The spacecraft Parker has broken persisting history set by Helios-2 back in 1976 via beating the 26.6 million miles mark. The major aim of the Parker Solar Probe is to reach the corona of the Sun that is the outer atmosphere within the first few weeks of 15 million miles travel to the solar surface. The 7 years of stay in the space is going to be used by the vehicle so as to make about 24 attempts to get closer to the ball of fury’s surface. Since its launch in August, Parker is all set to keep setting records by capturing the most spectacular images of the Sun that has never ever been witnessed before. It is on a mission to set yet another record of conquering 3.8 million miles in the coming years.
Looking at its quality of work, the task of breaking Helios-2′s speed record is not a big thing for this spacecraft. According to Andy Driesman, Project Manager, from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory the vehicle has come close to our star that no space engineer could have thought of. The solar encounter is a proud moment for the team. NASA is also got images captured of the Earth surrounded by thousands of stars along with the Sun’s images. It is also going to align its course by the first Venus gravity assist of the mission.
The Parker’s Wide-field Imager for Solar Probe (WISPR) tool is structured to picture the make-up of the sun’s corona as the spacecraft draws nearer next month. NASA has eight-episode series “On a Mission,” first JPL podcast, traveling with the InSight landers so as to keep a track of the mission during the flight.
